Lonza Group Ltd, Muenchensteinerstrasse 38, 4002 Basel, announces that it has been notified on 16 resp. 17 July 2008 by The Capital Group Companies, Inc., 333 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071-1406, USA, that as per 15 resp. 16 July 2008 its participation in voting rights of Lonza Group Ltd, indirectly held through (i) funds, managed by Capital Research and Management Company (“CRMC“), 333 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071-1406, USA, a subsidiary of The Capital Group Companies, Inc. and through (ii) institutional clients, managed by Capital Guardian Trust Company (“CGTC“), 333 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071-1406, USA, Capital International Limited (“CIL“), 40, Grosvenor Place, London, United Kingdom, Capital International Inc. (“CII”), 11100 Santa Monica Blvd 15th Fl., Los Angeles, CA USA and Capital International S.A. (“CISA”), 3 Place des Bergues, 1201 Geneva, Switzerland, each a subsidiary of Capital Group International Inc., a subsidiary of The Capital Group Companies, Inc., fell below the threshold of 5% and that it now holds 2,452,166 registered shares with a nominal value of CHF 1.- (=2,452,166 voting rights or 4.8606%) and 5,200 convertibles CH0014081324 (=5,200 voting rights or 0.0103%), totaling 2,457,366 registered shares/convertibles (= 2,457,366 voting rights or 4.8709%).
