| Lonza Continues Expansion into Advanced Technologies with a New Plant for Highly Potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients |
Basel, June 12, 2007 – Lonza expands its capacities for the production of highly potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The new manufacturing site will be built in Visp (Switzerland) and enables the production of highly potent APIs at large scale. The project provides Lonza with a unique competitive advantage by being the sole custom manufacturer capable of handling large scale manufacturing in this arena. This extension of the existing API-capacity in Visp is an important component of the overall Lonza Exclusive Synthesis (LES) strategy.
With the expansion of the existing API facilities in Visp, Lonza broadens its capacity to serve the developing market for highly potent APIs. Lonza will be able to manufacture highly potent APIs at large scale in response to a growing demand for existing highly potent API products and new API opportunities. This large scale capacity expansion will complement Lonza’s existing smaller scale facilities for highly potent APIs.
Lonza will invest more than CHF 80 million in the construction of API-capacity and expects to hire approximately 40 new employees until 2009 due to this investment.
