| Organizational changes in the Management Committee

| As announced in May 2003, the Board of Directors and the Management Committee have decided to integrate the former business sectors Exclusive Synthesis, Biotec and Biologics into the new Lonza Custom Manufacturing Business. |
At the same time the former business sectors Organic Fine Chemicals and Performance Chemicals as well as the Visp Service Center were combined and form the new organizational unit Lonza Organic Chemicals. In line with these changes the Board of Directors has changed the composition of the Management Committee (see enclosed organization chart).
The Board of Directors has appointed Gerhard Klement (born in 1952) to the Management Committee with immediate effect. He joined Lonza in January 2003 as Head of the Portsmouth operations and was recently appointed Chief Operating Officer Biopharmaceuticals. Gerhard Klement lives in Hampton, NH (USA). After his graduation in Vienna with a PhD in Biotechnology he worked in various functions for Centocor in Leiden (The Netherlands) and St. Louis, MO (USA), Laboratories Serono in Aubonne and Vevey (Switzerland) and Ares Serono in Geneva (Switzerland) and Boston (USA). Gerhard Klement reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Fritz Blaser, head of Human Resources, Insurances and Services, will retire at the end of September 2003 and is no longer a member of the Management Committee.
Following the integration of the business sector Performance Chemicals and the Visp Service Center into the new organizational unit Organic Chemicals, Stephan Kutzer and Stéphane Mischler are no longer members of the Management Committee, remain however responsible for their business unit and service center respectively.
